Durban-Based Artist Robin Thirdfloor Speaks About Self-Love and Awareness
Published 3 years ago by

Zkhiphani spent the day with Durban born and based recording artist Robin Thirdfloor in downtown Johannesburg. We got the chance to catch up with the Rapper ahead of his Joburg show for his two-leg tour appropriately named “Uthando Tour” in collaboration with Jagermeister.

Robin Thirdfloor has been very vocal about the importance of Self-Love. This is the theme for his latest offering titled Zithande.  The idea of self-love has been a prevalent theme in 2019 across all aspects of culture. This conversation has been spurred on by the rise in awareness of mental health. It is refreshing to see that this has transcended and has been apparent in the local music scene. This has become a very necessary conversation after the concurrent deaths of South African Hip-Hop giants. During the interview, Robin highlights his journey to self-love and awareness, considering where he was born and raised. Robin speaks on how music has always been a form of therapy. He approaches music in a way that allows him to express himself freely, in the same way, that a doctor’s therapy session would work. Robin futher touches on the relevance of this message, considering the climate of the country at the moment.

In this interview, Robin speaks on how uMlazi has influenced the likes of himself and his senior counterpart Okmalumkoolkat, mentioning that uMlazi is where the sauce is and that there are more like them where he comes from.
